The speedway stadium in Poznan

The speedway stadium in Poznan is located in a complex commonly known as “Golecin”. It is located in the north-west green wedge of the City of Poznan. The stadium in Golecin was built in 1954 and could seat about 20,000 spectators. It was the place of football games, athletics competitions and speedway races. Speedway in Poznan developed quite well in the period right after the end of World War II. There were a few clubs, but since 1957 there was no league team in the city for over 30 years. Reactivation – only one year – took place in the 1991 season. The club called Polonez, however, had considerable financial problems and disappeared from the speedway map of Poland. Another attempt to revive discipline came in 2004. This time – under the name of PSŻ Poznan – the team started until 2011. However, again – due to problems with the facility and relegation to the 2nd league – motorcycles in Golecin were silent. The signal for the revival of black sport in Greater Poland was provided by the Poznan Civic Budget. The inhabitants of Poznan voted twice for the “Sports Golaj” project, which included, among other things, the reconstruction of the speedway stadium

On April 2, 2016, the modernization of the speedway stadium in Golecin was completed, which can accommodate over 8,000 fans during the competition. After the end of the last stage, there are 6,275 seats and 2,000 standing places in the stands. Cash desks, gates, machinery park and administrative rooms have also undergone renovation.

Since 2017, the stadium has been the arena of the competition of PSŻ Poznan speedway riders in the 2nd speedway league. The meetings attract many speedway fans from the capital of Greater Poland. In 2022, the Polish Championship of Club Pairs was held here.

Enea European Team Speedway Championship will be the second large international event at the Poznan facility. In 1991, fans in Golecin could get excited about the final of the World Pairs Championship. Then the Danes won and the Poles took seventh place.
